How to organise
a World Multiplication Table Day event?

In a nutshell
In its mini version, the World Multiplication Table Day can be organised by a maths teacher in class. Pupils draw cards with tasks testing them on the multiplication table and solve them on their own (ready-made cards are available at our website after logging in). A pupil who correctly answers the five questions from his or her card is awarded a personal Multiplication Table Expert badge.
While the teacher is checking the cards, the pupils may be asked to solve mathematical and logical puzzles in groups. The most successful participants may additionally be rewarded with a grade.

Step 1 – Download and print the materials
To teach a WMTD lesson, download and print out the following materials: :- Task cards (available in two versions – for viva voce and written examination)
- A Multiplication Table Expert badge
- Multiplication table puzzles
- Download Script 1 – 2022 Classroom WMTD – written exam
- Download Script 2 – 2022 Classroom WMTD – viva voce exam
- Poster for the event (available from 12 September)
- Selected ‘Calculate Smart’ posters
- Selected large posters with the multiplication table
- Selected small posters with the multiplication table
Step 2 – Prepare the classroom ahead of the WMTD
- Put up a WMTD poster and ‘Calculate Smart’ posters in your classroom
- Put up small and large multiplication table posters
Step 3 – Revise multiplication table in class
Ideally, students should prepare for the WMTD for a whole week. We recommend puzzles available at www.wmtday.org to bring some more fun to your classes.
Step 4 – Hold the WMTD in class (2 October 2022)
It's for the teacher to decide whether to hold written or viva voce exams. For viva voce exams, the pupils should ideally be divided into teams of three or four. Each team chooses a captain, whose task is to help the teacher organise the exam. Each captain draws a set of exam problems for his or her team (one card for each team member).
Depending on the selected form of the exam, the teacher should prepare cards for either viva voce or written examination. Each card includes five problems. A pupil who gets all the five answers correctly is awarded a personal Multiplication Table Expert badge.
While the teacher is checking the exam cards, the pupils solve mathematical and logical puzzles prepared by the teacher.
